Canadian Students Health & Dental Plan

Qualifications for the Students’ Union Health & Dental Plan

  • Must
    be registered as a full time student
  • Must
    pay student fees
  • Must
    be under the age of 65

 Canadian Students Full Time

  • All full time Canadian students are automatically opted into the Health and
    Dental Plan on September 1st of each year
  • Full Time Canadian students that wish to opt out of the health and/or dental
    plan may do so between September 1st and September 30th.
  • The coverage runs from September 1st until August 31st of the
    following year. 
Canadian Students Part Time

  • Part time Canadian students are not automatically opted in to the Health and
    Dental Plan
  • A part
    time student may opt into the Health and Dental Plan at any time but are
    required to must pay the full price for the year.
  • The
    coverage runs from September 1st until August 31st
    of the following year.

Canadian Students Opting out of the Health and/or Dental Plan

Full time Canadian students may opt out of the health and/or
dental plan between September 1st and September 30th
based on the following criteria:

  1. The student can provide comparable coverage* through their own means or coverage through a parent or legal guardian.
  2. The student can complete the online Opt-out form releasing
    any financial liability on behalf of the St. Francis
    Xavier Students’ Union or St. Francis Xavier University as it pertains to
    inadequate health and or dental coverage at
    www.studentbenefits.ca
  3. The student can upload a digital copy of proof
    of comparable coverage at www.studentbenefits.ca
    after completing online opt out form.
  4. All full time Canadian students that have opted out of the Health and or Dental Plan may not see this amount reflected on their University Account until October 31st

Computers for are provided for students at the Information Desk on 3rd floor of the Bloomfield Centre. Remember to bring a digital copy of your coverage to upload.

* Comparable Coverage includes one or more of the following
criteria:

    • A letter from another policy holder evidencing the coverage applicable to the student, attesting to the fact student is covered for health and dental.
    • A current certificate of coverage, for the student, under another comparable benefit plan
    • A copy of the insurance policy under which the student is covered.
    • A current direct-payment drug card issued to the student.
    • A payroll statement showing a premium deduction for the students’ coverage under a comparable benefit plan.
