When is an event an event?
As per the risk management training, if an organized gathering of students either in residence or through a society or club, in which the organizing, participating in the event involves any of the following key risk factors or a combination of risk factors then a Student Risk Management Form must be completed.
A Sanctioned Event: Is an event in which a Student Risk Management Form has been completed, and has aquired the appropriate signatures through the approval network, to ensure the utmost safety of all those participating, organizing or volunteering at the event.
An Unsactioned Event: Is any event that occurs on St. Francis Xavier University Premises that has not had a Student Risk Assessment Form completed, or have the appropriate signatures on the form. Action may be taken against any of those organizing, participating or volunteering at the event as outlined in the community code of conduct: www.mystfx.ca/pdfs/community-code.pdf
The Key Risk factors are events that involve:
1. Alcohol or likelihood of alcohol having been consumed prior to the event
2. Travel
3. Physical Activity
Examples of where the PEO form is needed:
- House; Floor Parties; Theme parties
- Residence Lounge Parties
- Any advertised event on campus
- Events involving food
- Charity and Non Charity Events off campus
- House or Society Banquets and Awards nights
- Sporting or Intramural type events
Event Examples
Outside Events:Road Hockey Tournament ; Touch Football; Paintball; Trail Walking; Hikes; Beach Day
KMC Events:
Formal; Presentations; House Hockey Games
Charity Events:
Movie Nights; Shave for the Cure; Bottle Drive
House Events:
Video Game Tournament; Floor Appreciation Night; Pancake Breakfast
Bloomfield Centre
Theme Party in Mackay Room; Information sessions; Major sporting events
