Chair of Council

Elected by the Student Council in April, it is the chairs ob to run meetings of council and make sure everyone follows the rules. The chair keeps record of the Bylaws of The U, and interprets them if they get confusing.

Other duties include chairing meetings of the Board which runs the Bloomfield Centre, Your Students' Union Building, and casting a tiebreaking vote within Council, the body that decides how your money is spent. IThe chair also ensures that your elected councillors are readily available to you as students. Besides Council,the chair also oversee the Union Elections Team, and works closely with the Union Executive.

The job goes from April 6th, 2008 for one year, but the chair isn't around during the summer, so it's really more like a Sept-April commitment. The position pays an honorarium of approximately $50.00/week.


Deputy Chair of Council

The Deputy Chair has two main responsibilities. The first is to type up agendas and minutes from Council and for the Bloomfield Board. The second is to be familiar with union Bylaws and Roberts' Rules of Order because the Deputy Chair would take over in the absence of a Chair, and would perform all of the duties the Chair would normally be responsible for. The Deputy Chair also serves in an advisory role to the U Election Team.

The position runs from September to May and pays an honorarium of around $750.


Chief Returning Officer

The CRO is the main person in charge of running Union elections. The elections team reports to this person. The CRO sets dates for elections and campaigning and is responsible for enforcing the rules within the Elections Act. The position runs from September to May and pays an honorarium of around $700.


Returning Officer

The Returning Officers are members of the Elections Team. They work to ensure the democratic sprit of the U elections and referenda are upheld, work to ensure that poll clerks are found when needed, and work in close contact with communications to ensure that students know when and how they can vote. The position runs from September to May and pays an honorarium of around $400.
