The StFX Students’ Union stands in solidarity with members of the university and the broader community who were affected by the recent hate crimes in Antigonish. Racial slurs were spray-painted on surrounding local schools and the off-campus living residences of StFX students. The Union would like to re-affirm to its Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotian communities that it will continue to strive towards  becoming an entity that equitably represents its students. This is with the aim of fostering an environment of reconciliation that amplifies the voices of those who have been marginalized and protects their safety and security.

There is no place for racism or intolerance at StFX nor within the Union membership. The Union acknowledges that remaining silent in such instances allows bigotry to remain unchallenged. We would also like to accredit the invaluable work of X Project and the Youth Activism Conference organizers who continue to dedicate themselves to reinforcing that StFX is a community that is intended for everyone.
