Statement Regarding the Changes to Cameron and MacKinnon Hall
Press Release regarding the recent changes to Cameron and MacKinnon Hall:
January 31, 2018
The StFX Students' Union is invested in ensuring the wellness of all students, both on and off campus. Due to the various types of violence and conduct issues that have existed and continue to occur in these sorority/fraternity style residences, the Union supports the university's decision to amalgamate Cameron and MacKinnon Hall into truly co-ed residences. The Union recognizes individuals' frustrations; however, we cannot advocate for the continuation of an environment that has jeopardized the safety of students.
The Union will be advocating the University that they provide students with the empirical evidence that supports this move, in a way that does not compromise the confidentiality of any students/individuals involved.
Moving forward, the Union is excited to collaborate with the existing House Councils to be innovative with our approach when creating one unified council for each building. Students are encouraged to use this as an opportunity to create new traditions, ones that have a positive lasting impact.
