In 2017–2018 Students-at-Large were introduced to all Union committees in an effort to:
Provide students with more experiential learning opportunities
Increase transparency and input from the general student population,
Ensure that decisions made at the committee level are representative of the diverse student demographic.
All Union committees are public for students to sit on, however successful applicants will become voting members. The Union encourages students to attend committee meetings regardless of the outcome of their application. Students-at-Large must not currently hold an elected representative position within the Students’ Union.
Health & Dental Committee
The committee will be responsible for the following main categories relating to the financial, administrative and managerial aspects of the benefit plan. i. Establish the operating budget ii. Administrative practices, including the collection of fees, opt-outs, addition of coverage, maintenance of eligibility, claims handling, billings and other administrative related duties and issues. iii. Promotion and communications of the plan iv. Claims payment / abuse and fraud v. Benefit plan accounting and other financial matters vi. The coverage offered to students vii. Student complaints viii. Recommend changes to coverage and rates for council approval ix. Deal directly with other advisers, including, but not limited too, consultant, legal counsel, auditor, administrator and Trustees of The campus Trust. x. Monitor plans claims experience xi. Make recommendations to the University regarding coverage and rate changes for the International Student Medical Plan. xii. Member appeals and complaints and the resolution of same xiii. Provide a report to council on a regular basis xiv. Arrange for training for new committee members, such training to be provided for by the Consultant.
